Dear Mathsland CMC,

I have designed this park entry for the Design-Your-Heaven contest. I think that my park should be chosen because it fits in comfortably into the given dimensions.
My park has qualities like wheelchair accessibility, playground and picnic areas, a beautiful lake, and trees to give greenery and shade. Within my picnic area, I have a triangular botanical garden for those nature-lovers, and within my playground area there are basketball & tennis courts, and swings for the little ones. To go from one area to the other, I have made paths, that are wheelchair friendly and accessible to the blind, that overlook another small circular garden. Besides these facilities, I have also left some areas untouched and they can be used for ceremonial occasions like weddings or birthdays and could be converted into food courts.

All in all, I think that my park will be quite successful, if opted for, and will attract many visitors.

Regards,
Ankita Gaur

Response to the CAS Park Project

  • How was your understanding of access to public places been changed by your experience of trying to access the Upper field by wheelchair?
I think that it would be quite frustrating to be stranded onto a chair all your life, and not be able to go to normal public places without stares and wide eyes! I think that the idea of making a park wheelchair friendly is a great idea because it shows that you care, and also that just because a person can’t do the things that you can then they are wrong or bad.
  • What have you learned about the process when designing the park?
I think that the job of being in a council is stressful because you have to come up with ideas that are attractive, sensible, and in your budget. Also you have to see that you have enough land and facilities for your park. I think that Freehand is a really good software to use because you can make your shapes according to your need.
  • What sugesstions can you make for improving the process for next year’s students?
I think that for next year’s students, you should design many other smaller and less detailed parks before doing the actual one, and also point out some mistakes that we made this year so they dont get repeated.
