Persuasive Letter

To Whom It May Concern

Dear Council Member,
Mont’ Kiara is a wonderful neighborhood, and to enhance it even more, a park is just the thing that you are looking for! Residents in the Mont’ Kiara area are mostly expatriates, and they will therefore look for a distinctive park that will meet all of their needs. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when judging a park? Mine is efficiency, and good safety awareness. No parent would want to leave his or her 3- year old child alone in a 1-meter swimming pool, or alone in a petting zoo. The animal enclosure in this park includes experienced helpers that will help look over a child, to prevent incidents from happening. After playing with animals, children can go to the playground for a little more playtime, which are again, filled with helpers ready to step in to ensure the children’s’ safety; the park actually has lots of helpers around. However, if it is preferred for girls to go over to the flower garden to plant a few orchids, there will be some lessons. After, you can take a refreshing dip in the pool, which includes a ‘under the age of 5’ area for your children to be, so you can have a relaxing time with no worries. 27.5 meters away, there will be a picnic area with yet another flower garden. Older children, such as teenagers, are not forgotten! A skateboarding ramp is 10 meters away from the park, so the parents can also keep an eye on them. Other recreational areas include a Zen garden. If visitors would like to stay for the night, they can camp out at the free area provided, where it is sheltered as well. Mont’ Kiara is already a great place, and this park will make it better. Your approval makes a big part of the decision.


CAS Park Project- Report
As you probably know, our task in Math is to build a park using the software/ application Macromedia Freehand. This is the report on my park, and it will tell you about the dimensions, and it’s area/ perimeter.

How Has Your Understanding of Access to Public Spaces Been Changed by Your Experience of Trying to Access the Upper Field by Wheelchair?
I have not physically tried to access the Upper Field with a wheelchair. However, when I see other people do it, they do it with great difficulty, and it definitely shows. Therefore, when I created my park, I decided to not have any steps, and just plain flat surfaces.

What have you learned about the process when designing the park? Eg, how did you manage to convert real dimensions to grid dimensions and vice versa?
I learnt a lot through the process of creating a park, and I think that I have it stuck to my head. First of all, I learnt how to figure out the area and perimeter of new shapes, such the circle. Finding the dimensions of about 12 objects in the park helped us with our skills a great deal, and the entire project was like a summary of what we had covered in CAS. I also learnt a new software application, Macromedia FreeHand; it will help in the near future, as it can also be one of the ways to showcase our work.

What suggestions can you make for improving the process for next year’s students?
Overall, this project was very interesting, and it had let us showcase our creative side. I would suggest that the scale of the park layout. I think that it would make life easier for everyone if the scale is 1 x 1, and not 5 x 5, as we had to go through all the trouble of converting, and it will often lead to careless mistakes. Another advantage is that the visualization of the shape you are creating is increased.
